Voluntary Water Usage Advisory

The MD is no longer in mandatory water restrictions effective July 5th, 2024. Water conservation efforts have been reduced to an advisory and are now voluntary. This is downgraded from the previous Stage 1 - Moderate water restriction which was in effect starting June 12th, 2024.

Recent rains and conservation efforts from other groups have resulted in lower than seasonal irrigation draw and a higher than anticipated fill of the Oldman Reservoir, where the MD’s intakes are located. The Oldman Reservoir level has recovered significantly and is now within 25% of normal level for this time of year. It remains unclear what the remainder of the Summer and Fall will bring in terms of demand on the Oldman Reservoir, and the MD encourages residents and business to remain aware of water usage throughout the coming periods of warming.

The MD’s water system serves the Hamlets of Lundbreck and Beaver Mines, as well as the Village of Cowley, Castle Mountain Resort, and users along the Transmission line.

Current Status: Voluntary

The MD asks residents and business to please inform neighbours and keep an eye on our website and socials for further updates.

The Alberta government and MD continues to monitor the situation watching precipitation levels, reservoirs and lake levels, stream flow rates in rivers and water demand. They continue to work closely with municipal governments to help manage and conserve water where possible.
