When hauling waste and debris to the landfill, it is essential that loads are properly secured with a tarp to prevent debris from littering the roads and to keep items from falling out and hurting someone. Let's all do our part to prevent the trash from ending up in our roadways and remember; littering on MD or Provincial roadways is an enforceable offence.
Some tips on safe ways to transport items to the landfill:
-
Use a tarp big enough to cover your trailer or truck bed completely without blocking your lights and/or indicators
-
Tightly secure the tarp with ropes, bungee cords, netting, or straps.
-
When transporting large items, make sure they are tied down and connected to the truck or trailer so they don't move.
-
A tarp is not required if transporting items in a completely enclosed trailer
-
Don't overload — keep material level or below the sides of the truck bed or trailer
-
Before leaving the landfill, remove any loose material.
