Parks Canada Creates Grassland Fuel Break
Parks Canada has mowed fuel breaks in the grass approximately 600 metres north of the Chief Mountain Highway turnoff in preparation for a potential spring 2020 prescribed fire. This fuel break is for fire management purposes. Parks Canada may light small-scale fires to remove additional fuels and strengthen the fuel break when conditions are favourable this winter and spring. Burning will only take place during good venting conditions and any smoke impacts will be minimal.
We will provide additional information on the prescribed fire following the completion and approval of an environmental assessment and prescribed fire plan.
