Pincher Creek & District Hometown Award

Pincher Creek & District Hometown Award

The Councils will honour three students for their exceptional dedication to their community. This recognition by the Councils for both the Town of Pincher Creek and the Municipal District of Pincher Creek No. 9 is a testament to these students' significant impact. We are proud to support and acknowledge the valuable contributions of our students to our community through this award.

Grade 12 students attending Matthew Halton High School, St. Michael’s School, and Livingstone
School who reside within the MD boundaries are invited to apply for the Pincher Creek & District Hometown Award. This includes residents of Cowley, the Municipal District and the Town of Pincher Creek. Administered by the MD, this award is a testament to our community's commitment to “giving back.”

Three students who meet the criteria will be awarded $1000; these funds are intended to help ease the financial burden of post-secondary expenses. Post-secondary refers to any program offered by an accredited professional body. Preference will be given to students pursuing learning that is not affiliated with traditional post-secondary (universities or colleges) or training for traditional trades. For example, this might include certification in Class 3 driving training, Fitness Alberta Certification, or Alberta Early Learning Childcare Certification.

Applicants shall provide:

  1. A letter (400 word maximum) or video file (under two minutes) from the applicant setting out residency, goals, and objectives for the post-secondary program;
  2. Resume outlining community involvement, volunteerism, extracurricular activities, or explain how this opportunity would enable you to contribute to the community in the future;
  3. Submission of a non-family character support reference (400 word maximum).

The Pincher Creek & District Hometown Award Committee, which consists of one MD of Pincher Creek Councillor, one Town of Pincher Creek Councillor, and two members-at-large from the community, will be responsible for making the tough decision of selecting the appropriate candidates.

The application deadline is May 1, 2026. Applicants must ensure their applications are complete and submitted to the MD of Pincher Creek No. 9 office before deadline.  Supporting documents can be brought into the office (1037 Herron Ave) or emailed to info@mdpinchercreek.ab.ca

We wish all applicants much success in their post-secondary journeys. The results will be announced during the next graduation ceremony. Funds will be disbursed by the end of August.
