MD Pincher Creek Water Restriction Advisory - Advisory Stage

Water Shortage Response Plan

Due to a continued trend of significantly lower than seasonal levels within the Oldman Reservoir, a lack of remaining snowpack, and high seasonal demand, the MD of Pincher Creek (MD) has implemented a water conservation advisory.

This advisory impacts the Hamlets of Lundbreck and Beaver Mines, Castle Mountain Resort, the Village of Cowley, and rural users on the MD’s regional system.

What you need to know:

Restrictions are currently voluntary, but residents are advised to follow them.
The MD recommends watering only between 6AM-10AM and 7PM-11PM.
The MD successfully installed new intakes in early 2024. These intakes are not currently in use as reservoir levels remain above the old intakes.
If levels changes within the Oldman Reservoir continue along the current path, the MD may need to rely on the new intakes again later this year.
The MD’s revised Water Shortage Response Plan accounts for current demand (among other factors) when assessing future water restriction stage requirements.
- Conserving water will help the MD avoid mandatory and stricter stages of restrictions when water levels start to drop in the Oldman Reservoir.
