Provincial Proposal to Reduce Assessment
We need your support!
Our Province has proposed reducing the assessed value of Wells, Pipelines, Machinery and Equipment for the Oil and Gas Sector to give them a break on taxes and make their industry more attractive to investment.
If the province proceeds with this initiative, we would see a reduction in our overall assessment of $110M, reducing tax revenue by approximately $1.2M. The reduction would impact our ability to provide services, contribute to community grants and honour the Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework (ICF) and Pincher Creek Community Early Learning Center (PCCELC) agreements. A lower assessment pool will also mean the levy’s for Education, Seniors and Emergency Services, that used to be partially paid by this assessment, will now need to be made up by other assessment classes, including residential and farmland.
Please read the attached documents and see what is truly being proposed by the Ministers. We have 4 weeks before the House resumes to make our voices heard. Our options are very limited in how we can address this shortfall. This will impact everyone, and of the 750+ Oil & Gas Sector companies operating within our Province, it will only benefit 22 of them.
We are truly facing :
• Revenue loss • Reduced services• Tax Rate increases • Reduced infrastructure investment
• Unfair burden on taxpayers • Reduced or canceled agreements• Uncertainty in future changes in assessment to follow
We need you to add your voice to ours. To let our MLA know this is not acceptable and encourage our government to engage our Municipal leaders, RMA and AUMA to find another way that is collaborative and has the long term sustainability and viability of both our Province and Municipalities in mind.
