Snow Event Preparedness
Winter Story Warning in effect from Environment Canada for MD and area. Hazardous winter conditions are expected.
MD crews are prepared for the weekend snow event and have equipment ready for mobilization.
Snow accumulations are expected to be substantial and opening all MD roads will take time. Operators will be following the winter maintenance policy for clearing (Policy C-PW-003) which directs the priority of roads to be opened. Snow removal priorities are as follows:
Priority 1: All bus routes, arterial, collector roadways, short connector portions of local roads and Hamlets shall be the First Priority.
Priority 2: All remaining gravel municipal roads located in rural areas shall be Second Priority in terms of snow clearing and control office.
Priority 3: Snowplowing of Private driveway and airport leased areas will be conducted with a lower priority consideration and will not be completed until the snow or wind event has ended.
Priority 4: The Pincher Creek Airport surface conditions will be inspected, snow accumulation assessed and plowed if necessary and surface conditions reported by qualified operators.
Priority 5: Unimproved roads shall receive the last priority as they will have the lowest traffic volumes.
