Private Snow Removal
While enjoying this beautiful summer weather, if you plan to use the MD for your private snow removal needs, we encourage you to think ahead for the eventual snowfall season.
Regarding private driveways, the Municipality will only assist with non-emergency snow removal for individuals once all priority roads are cleared. Private driveways may be requested to be cleared for $280.00 per hour, prorated—minimum charge: $180. As per policy C-FIN-529 Fees and Charges.
Our Municipal roads will take precedence. Should you need your private driveway cleared before the Municipality can assist, please get in touch with a local contractor.
Before the MD enters private property, residents must complete a driveway snow removal form and a driveway inspection. This form needs to be completed annually to note any changes. The driveway inspection must be fulfilled before the snow is on the ground so the operator can notice any property damage or hazards, and has a deadline of October 1, 2025 for this season. Private snow removal agreement forms received after October 01, 2025, will only be accepted at the discretion of the Public Work Manager, or designate.
“Aging in Place" residents and other residents who require a higher priority due to an existing medical condition (whether chronic or temporary) can make a formal request to the CAO for their road to be placed on a higher winter maintenance priority route. These requests will need to be accompanied by a Medical Practitioner's note indicating the requirement for home care, if necessary. These special requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the CAO. Driveway snow removal for residents "Aging in Place " will be invoiced as per Policy C-FIN-529 Fees and Charges. Section 16 & 17 of C-PW-003 Winter Maintenance of Municipally Directed Controlled and Managed Roads and Airport Surfaces refer to "Aging in Place".
Please note the form is NOT a request for snow removal. It is only an agreement, and hold harmless, to use this service. Residents will still need to call in to request snow removal, understanding that driveways are a lower priority. They will then be billed each time the service is used. Also note that the MD does not have equipment for removing snow on smaller driveways (hamlets).
