WATER RESTRICTION – STAGE 1
Water Shortage Response Plan
Due to a continued trend of significantly lower than seasonal and decreasing levels within the Oldman Reservoir, a lack of remaining snowpack, and high seasonal demand, the MD of Pincher Creek (MD)
has implemented a Stage 1 Water Restriction.
This restriction impacts the Hamlets of Lundbreck and Beaver Mines, Castle Mountain Resort, the Village of Cowley, and rural users on the MD’s regional system.
What you need to know:

Restrictions are mandatory and enforceable under Bylaw 1344-22.

Restriction Stage 1 of 5 is in effect. Refer to subsequent tables for full details regarding water restriction schedules.

Residential and commercial manual and automatic sprinkler usage is restricted to 4 days a week between 6AM-10AM and 7PM-11PM.

Residential and commercial hand watering of aesthetic gardens is allowed 7 days a week, but restricted between 6AM-10AM and 7PM-11PM.

The MD recommends watering only between 6AM-10AM and 7PM-11PM.

Bulk Water Stations and Sani-Sumps remain open for use. Planned end use restrictions remain applicable.

The MD successfully installed new intakes in early 2024. The MD has been starting these up in anticipation of loss of original intakes in late July or early August.

The MD’s revised Water Shortage Response Plan accounts for current demand (among other factors) when assessing future water restriction stage requirements.

Conserving water will help the MD avoid stricter stages of restrictions when the original intake access is lost in the Oldman Reservoir.
