Level 3 Water Restriction

Water Update

As of April 21st, 2024, the MD has reverted to hauling water to meet 100% of our water needs for the communities that we service. The temporary pumping setup (which was meeting about 75% of our demands) within the Oldman reservoir had to be removed due to rising reservoir levels impacting access to our intake tie-in points. The reservoir needs to rise about another 7% before our intakes fully submerge again, which is likely to happen later in May. This means is as important as ever that residents and businesses continue to conserve water wherever possible. Please refer to our water restrictions webpage for more information on the MANDATORY restrictions in effect for all users on the Cowley Regional Water System (Lundbreck, Beaver Mines, Castle Mountain Resort, Village of Cowley, Rural pipeline users).

The MD is in the process of building more drought resilient intakes for emergency use in scenarios like we are seeing this year. We are targeting having the upgrades to the system operational by end of May, 2024. We anticipate water restrictions will remain in effect based on the overall needs of the South Saskatchewan Basin and current snowpack level concerns.

The MD appreciates the efforts and sacrifices members of our community continue to make to conserve water and help get through this challenging water supply crisis.
